Fansly DM Permissions control who is allowed to start or continue a direct-message conversation with a creator. They are separate from the permissions that control whether media inside a message can be viewed.
Where to change DM Permissions
Open the Creator Dashboard, select Messages and adjust the DM permission rules. Fansly lets creators choose broad access or build requirements that a user must meet before they can message.
Followers and subscribers can be treated differently
A creator can decide whether everyone, followers or more limited groups can send a message. This makes it possible to keep free following enabled without automatically opening the inbox to every follower.
Use spend or tip requirements
Fansly’s current documentation gives examples such as requiring a follower to tip a specified amount per message or requiring a user to have spent a minimum amount unlocking PPV content.
Private Lists can override general access rules
Fansly Lists include a DM Allow List, and custom Lists can also be used in permission workflows. This is useful when a creator wants a stricter default inbox rule but still wants selected fans to have direct access.
DM permission is not media permission
Allowing someone to message you does not automatically unlock media you send them. Fansly treats message access and media-unlock permissions as separate controls.
Best Creators tip: choose rules that match your workload
Inbox permissions should balance accessibility with the amount of conversation you can realistically manage. If volume becomes difficult, tighten the rule instead of simply leaving large numbers of messages unanswered.
This is a Best Creators operational recommendation based on Fansly’s current permission system.
